Our temporary modular housing solution has been relocated outside the Mayor’s Office, in partnership with Wates Group and RCKa. This modular installation demonstrates just how quick and flexible our approach to temporary housing can be.
This home will be open to the public by appointment from 14 August until 7 September. This installation is more than a display; it is a solution, a housing solution to tackle the current housing crisis and provide quality temporary modular homes for thousands of families.
The GLA (Greater London Authority) is exploring opportunities to use modular housing on vacant brownfield land it owns, making the most of these sites before full redevelopment. By taking a modular unit to multiple locations, the initiative aims to highlight how this innovative approach can help address the temporary accommodation crisis.

A welcoming porch to emulate the external stair/living space solution was added to enhance both the functional entryway and the overall curbside presence.

The Problem
Homelessness in the UK has reached the breaking point. Councils spend £2.1 billion annually to house record numbers of families in hotels and B&Bs, and these accommodations often have families living in inadequate conditions. Meeting demand will require 90,000 new social rent homes every year for the next decade, yet from 2022 to 2023, only 9,500 were delivered. This mismatch has pushed boroughs toward financial strain and plunged families deeper into crisis.
The Solution
Modular homes offer a fast, sustainable, and high-impact alternative. Capable of being installed in just two hours, they provide private bedrooms, kitchens, and comfortable living spaces. With energy-efficient design and moveability, councils can recoup their investment within three to five years and save up to £63,500 per household per year compared to existing temporary housing. While not a long-term substitute, our modular homes deliver immediate relief for thousands of families, offering a safe and comfortable home.
