Sustainability
At Rollalong we recognise that we have a responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements, and as a company we’re committed to doing so.
Modular offsite construction is a sustainable way to create new buildings with a small or zero carbon footprint. We take three key steps to deliver clients’ key sustainability targets:
Fabric first – the highly insulated walls, floors and roof, the high-performance windows and doors, and the air-tight building fabric mean that all our buildings exceed current Building Regulations as standard.
Energy efficiency – mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems, waste water heat recovery systems, LED lighting and efficient water fittings further lower emissions in all our buildings.
Renewable energy technologies – from highly efficient air source heat pumps to solar photovoltaic panels to generate their own electricity and offset energy use to net zero carbon targets and beyond.
We’re committed to reducing our carbon emissions by 25% by 2026 and to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Our Carbon Reduction Plan sets out a number of initiatives, including new manufacturing efficiencies, installing modern equipment in our factory, photovoltaic panels to generate energy on site, switching to electric forklift trucks, and installing EV chargers on site to decarbonise the company cars and allow employees to charge their electric vehicles.

Benefits of Modular
faster and less disruptive
It’s considerably faster to build a modular building than it is to build from the ground up using bricks and mortar – up to 50% faster. As everything is built offsite there are no delays caused by inclement weather or the unavailability of materials.
Offsite methods generate less noise and less dust on site and reduce vehicle movements to and from the site by up to 90%, so disruption to local residents is kept to a minimum.
It guarantees quality and reduces cost
Our buildings are precision engineered in tightly controlled factory conditions and adhere to a ‘right first time’ philosophy, which means we can offer a quality product time after time.
Because ‘modern methods of construction’ (MMC) reduce delays and waste, and because work schedules are shorter and more manageable, MMC projects are often more cost-effective than traditional builds.
It is modernising the construction sector
A chronic housing shortage, together with inefficiencies in cost and quality across the construction sector, are driving the shift towards MMC. The Government now includes MMC as part of its national housing strategy to support its ambitious goal to add a million homes.
Factory
Rollalong has the capacity to produce 2,000 to 4,000 modules per year depending on the market sector.
We design our buildings in house and we directly employ 100 people, of whom 40 work in our factory.
By providing highly skilled employment we are offering social value to our local community and the wider Dorset economy. Around half of our employees live in Dorset, and one-third of our supply chain and subcontractors are employed in the county.
Principal/Specialist Contractor
With over 50 years of experience we can act as a main contractor, providing full turnkey solutions and completing any project ‘from cradle to grave’.
This approach is often taken by many of our long-established clients and it can offer such benefits as cost reduction and continuity for our clients, as we can provide a one-stop shop service.
When operating as a specialist contractor we provide the same business principles and the same service and we follow the same approach to our robust business model as we do when we are the main contractor on a project.
We generally supply the superstructure or modules, leaving the main contractor to complete all finishes such as face brickwork or roof construction for example.
